Let It Be.

flower let it be

I am not the type of person who uses profanity or cusses or anything of that sort. But because of this I get treated differently by many people: my friends, my family, and even adults. But why does my dislike of profanity make such a huge difference in  someone else’s life? I merely choose not to say bad things or words that are unnecessary and hurtful to others, yet I get singled out by those who do.

When my friends or family get angry or frustrated, they tend to blurt out a random cuss word. And when they do this, they more often than not say, “Oh, sorry Kayla,” or “Excuse me, you didn’t hear that, Kayla.” All I ask of them is “why are you telling just me this?” Their responses are usually those of complete clueless-ness and they tend to move on without even answering my question.

This frustrates me greatly. The reasons I don’t like to use such words is because there are other ones that mean the exact same thing and can even explain your emotions and feelings more adequately. Using cuss words makes me feel dirty, rotten, and an all-around horrible person. When I don’t partake in this popular habit of my generation, I get ridiculed and isolated from others, some of whom, I might add, don’t always use bad language themselves.

Because of my choice in words, people often think that I am childish and naive as to what really goes on in the world. They ask me “duh” questions that are easily answered by anyone. This in turn makes me feel foolish and stupid. They stereotype me for what I don’t care for, and assume that i’m a “goodie-goodie.”

But without a doubt, I move on with my day and push the bad and the strange happenings in life (such as this) away. Life has been good to me so far; why not rejoice instead of focusing on not-so-good events? You have to let go of the past and keep moving forward. We have to stay positive and push ahead with our lives, not thinking about or regretting  the past. All in all, we just have to let it be.

“And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.”

  1. You are such a beautiful person inside and out Kayla. Just be who you are and don’t let other people dictate how your life should be. The world would be a better place if there were more young people like you in it.

  2. Kayla, I couldn’t agree more. I’m not one to use cuss words either and I get how you feel when someone calls me out for that. I agree with Aunt Mimi and you should just stick to who you are. I try really hard to as well and find that when I stick to who I am, and not encourage cussing, others get the memo that I don’t like it. Great post! 🙂
