I first learned how to make these fun pens a few years ago from a close friend, and now I make them all the time. They make great gifts for family and friends’ birthdays, holidays, or just to brighten someone’s day. I usually choose three different rolls of Duck Tape Brand Duct Tape, (two basic, plain colors and one patterned) which you can find anywhere from Michael’s Stores to Target, and use new packages of blue or black pens, preferably with caps, found wherever pens are sold.
Step One: Rip or cut a piece of duct tape that is about two-and-a-half inches long.
Step Two: Fold the corner of the duct tape over, leaving a small portion still sticky.
Step Three: Fold the corner with the sticky side over to the other corner, forming a triangle shape, keeping an excess sticky portion on the end.
Step Four: With the triangular end point up, wrap the piece of tape around the end of the pen, opposite of the tip of the pen.
Step Five: Repeat steps one through four until you have added multiple layers. I usually make a total of six layers; be creative and make as many as you would like.
Step Six: Rip or cut a piece of tape about three inches long.
Step Seven: Wrap the piece of tape fully around the outer layer and pen.
Step Eight: Take a small, thin piece of duct tape.
Step Nine: Wrap the thin piece of tape completely around the cap of the pen.
